We all know that dating can be difficult. Whether you are a divorcee who is getting back into the swing of things, or you’ve simply never found your special someone, you can still find love.
South Florida Introductions is here to help. Check out our list of top dating pitfalls that you need to avoid.
Not Being Honest
Say your date talks all about country music. They are an impressive figure, and even dress the part. It may feel tempting to say that you enjoy country music. That would make them happy, and it is not that big of a deal if you tell one white lie, right?
You need to keep in mind that you are setting the tone for the whole relationship. They are going to try to take you to country music concerts, considering you “enjoy” it. In relationships, you might want to try new things. But you should also speak up, and be clear about what you like and what you want. When you are dating, be aware that you’re in it for the long run.
Giving Too Much Information
At a certain age, you know yourself. You understand your innermost thoughts, and where they come from. Once you have tapped this wellspring, you may want to show it off to everyone. After all, when you are dating, you need to be open, correct?
There is such a thing as too much information. Telling every sordid detail of your last relationship, or immediately sharing all of your embarrassing habits is not a good idea. You should be open, of course, but you should not reveal so much, that there is no mystery in the relationship.
Giving Too Little Information
It can seem a bit paradoxical, especially in light of the tip mentioned above this one. On your first date, you will initiate a conversation. You do not need to be a flowing river of past experiences, but you should not clam up either. Let the conversation naturally lead to who you are, the things you enjoy, and so forth.
Constantly Comparing
To a certain extent, we are all naturally inclined to compare the person in front of us to all of the other people in our past. If you are coming from a divorce, weighing the pros and cons of your ex-spouse against this person is very seductive. The ghosts of exes from high school can come back to haunt you, and that person you dated when you were first figuring yourself out still shows up on your Facebook feed. You need to make sure that they are not lurking over your shoulder.
You would not want to be compared to all of the other people in your dating partner’s past. Why would you do the same to someone you are paired with? Try to limit how much you are talking about your ex, and you could do yourself a favor by limiting how much you are thinking about them, too.
Playing Games
Once you reach a particular age, you can leave all the foolish games behind. If they don’t text you for several hours, it may not be because they are playing hard to get, or because they want to be cold. They may just be busy, or they just can’t get to the phone. If you don’t text back for several hours in turn, you run the risk of looking very immature. That is really not conducive to establishing a long-lasting, trusting relationship, and proves rather ineffective.
